SHILLONG: Several pressure groups including the GSU Byrnihat unit, All Guwahati A’chik Students Association (AGASA), 12th mile Amber Mahila Committee, and the villagers both from Assam and Meghalaya held a meeting on Thursday and opposed any move to set up a cement plant in Amber village at 12th mile in Assam-Meghalaya border.
In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, the GSU pointed out that as per media reports from Assam, there was a public hearing held regarding the setting up of the cement plant in the middle of the village, without consulting the genuine residents of the area.
“We passed a resolution to oppose setting up of the cement plant”, GSU said.
