A two-day Hindi Conference for the North East Region organised by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India was inaugurated by Satendra Prakash, Additional Director General, DAVP, New Delhi in Shillong on Thursday. DAVP officials from the North East Region attended the conference.

The Shillong Times first appeared as a tabloid weekly on 10th August 1945 under the editorship of Late Sudhindra Bhusan Chaudhuri. In 1958 it was converted to a Daily. Owing to financial constraints, within six months it reverted back to a weekly.
