TURA: A conglomeration of NGOs from South West Garo Hills comprising of the GSU, AYWO, GHSMC and FKJGP have submitted a complaint to the Health and Family Welfare Minister demanding immediate suspension of the doctor and ambulance driver of Garobadha PHC for being unavailable when victims of a road mishap were taken to the PHC recently.
A speeding Tura bound bus (ML 08 – 1046) coming from Rajabala via Selsella met with an accident at Modupara locality of Garobadha recently killing on the spot, a class XII student and injuring scores of other passengers.
The surviving victims were taken to the PHC where they failed to get any assistance due to the absence of the said staff.
In their complaint to the Health Minister the NGOs said, “The doctor and the ambulance driver of the PHC should be sternly punished and dismissed from their respective posts for negligence of duty resulting in absence of first aid to the accident victims.”
Meanwhile, pointing out that the PHC covers a very large and highly populated area the NGOs have also demanded that it be upgraded with all the necessary modern equipment.
In view of the PHC functioning with only one general doctor barring an Ayush doctor, the NGOs have sought the appointment of another doctor.
Further, the NGOs demanded that the PHC be equipped with medicines and health care facilities as well as an ambulance driver to be made available 24X7.
