Over 1600 State youths trained under Skill India Mission

SHILLONG: As many as 1661 candidates from Meghalaya have completed their training under the Skill India Mission.
It has been informed that 1661 candidates from Meghalaya were enrolled under the mission and all of them have completed their training. However, only 10 candidates have been certified so far.
The Skill India Mission was launched on July 15, 2015 to scale up skilling with standards and speed in the country.
To achieve the objective, the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) to enable and mobilize a large number of Indian youths to take up skill training to become employable and earn their livelihood.
The PMKVY targets to cover 24 lakh youths through fresh training and certification under RPL. As on April 25, 2016, 17.93 lakh candidates have been enrolled and 17.58 lakh training completed.
On the other hand, the government has set up the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as a Public Private Partnership entity to promote private training providers to set up skill   development centres across the country.
Private training providers are assisted financially in the form of loan to set up skill development centres across the country.
In Meghalaya, in the year 2015-16, 4866 trainings were reported and 1618 were placed.
In the year 2014, 4369 training were recorded and 2231 were placed and in the year, 2013-14, 3458 training were recorded and 648 were placed.
