SHILLONG: The KSU South West Khasi Hills District has castigated the State government for its failure to make the Wahkaji PHC functional, stating that the supposed health institution has now turned into cattle shed.
Trulywell Lyngdoh, general secretary of KSU South West Khasi Hills District, lamented that even though the PHC has been in the area since the early 90’s it has failed to provide any service to the people of the region.
The KSU also took up the matter with  Health & Family Welfare Minister A.L. Hek, who assured that he will conduct an inspection of the PHC himself and ensure that it becomes functional at the earliest.
The KSU further sought for appointment of doctors in the PHC so that it can really serve the people.
Meanwhile, the KSU also demanded up gradation of Nonghyllam health sub-centre into a PHC.
Located around 143 kms from Shillong, Nonghyllam is one of the most underdeveloped border areas of South West Khasi Hills, the KSU claimed
In the absence of any medical facilities, patients have to travel 25 kms to go to the Ranikor PHC to seek medical assistance, the union added.
