Registration for government officials, staff in WJH on May 10
SHILLONG: The West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner has informed that the district administration will start enrolment of National Population Register (NPR) soon. Registration for all government officers and staff in the district will be held on May 10 at the DC’s Office, Jowai.
For the general public, sensitization and awareness programmes will be held and Know Your Residence (KYR+) forms will be distributed to all localities via their respective headmen.
Locality wise camps will also be set up, details of which will be intimated by the district administration at a later stage for collection of bio-metric data of all residents who are of the age of 5 years and above.
According to the deputy commissioner, all usual residents are required to attend the NPR camp, even if their bio metrics has been captured under Aadhaar, and those already enrolled with Aadhaar are to bring their Aadhaar letter/ enrollment slip to the NPR camps.
For those who have not enrolled yet under UIDAI, Aadhaar will be generated through NPR.
It is proposed to issue Resident Identity (Smart) Card bearing the Aadhaar number under NPR, the official said.
“Under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act 2016, no core biometric information, collected or created under this Act, shall be shared with anyone for any reason whatsoever or used for any purpose other than generation of Aadhaar numbers and authentication”.
“Hence privacy concerns have been duly addressed in the Act. Misusing the data under the Act has been made punishable offence,” the official added.
Aadhaar number does not confer any right or proof of citizenship or domicile and it is to be used as a proof of identity only. Also under the Act, “Consent of an individual would be obtained for his identity information during enrollment and authentication”, he added.
