SHILLONG: The Director of Directorate of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) informed the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) on Saturday that its proposal for the provincialisation of teachers’ services in Government aided schools has been taken up at the Government level.
Speaking to reporters here later in the day, JACATAM chairman, E.D .Nongsiang, said, “The provincialised schools will have their own service rules, namely, Meghalaya Provincialised Schools Service Rules for Teachers, and the schools’ management can frame the rules based on the policy and guidelines of the Government.”
“We have followed the model of school education as found in Tamil Nadu where there is integration of services of the teachers from primary level up to the higher secondary at the Government aided schools,” he added.
Nongsiang pointed out that the provincialisation of schools will cover all Government aided schools– adhoc teachers, deficit pattern and deficit system and SSA (Upper Primary level).
“The total expenditure to implement the project will be Rs 900 crore,” he added.
He stated that the provincialisation of teachers’ services in the state would have its share of benefits as the teachers will enjoy salaries as per ‘scales of pay and allowances of their counterparts in Government schools’ and also avail pensionary benefits and such other schemes.
He further added that medical reimbursement will be provided to the teachers of the provincialised schools.
