Youth Congress files FIR
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Youth Congress has filed an FIR against unidentified masked miscreants for putting up posters, paper flags at Ringrey market, Tura.
Richard M Marak, President, Youth Congress, Tura lodged a complaint that on May 9, unidentified masked miscreants wearing caps with party logo, put up posters, paper flags and stickers of the Congress party at Ringrey market, in an attempt to tarnish the image and also to frame the party for violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Constable stabbed in city
SHILLONG: An armed branch constable of Meghalaya police was stabbed by unknown miscreants at Nongrimmaw, Laitumkhrah.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning around 1:30 AM when unidentified miscreants stabbed ABC/2359 Steven Kharkongor (25) of East Khasi Hills, DEF, with a sharp weapon at Nongrimmaw, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
In the incident, the victim sustained grievous injuries and was admitted at NEIGRIHMS.
Matter is under inquiry.

Labourer killed in mishap in WJH
SHILLONG: A labourer was crushed to death by a boulder at a stone quarry at Khliehtyrshi, West Jaintia Hills.
The incident happened on May 4 when the labourer Lal Bordoloi was working at the stone quarry.
He was shifted to Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai, where the medical officer declared him brought dead.

Coal trucks seized in EJH
SHILLONG: Two trucks found to be transporting coal without challans in East Jaintia Hills have been seized.
On May 7 around 4.30 AM, two coal laden trucks (AS-01BB-3286) and (AS-24C-6008) fled from a weighbridge at Ratacherra.
Police chased and managed to intercept the trucks along with the driver of truck (AS-24C-6008) Md. Abdul Ali Borbhuiya at NRL petrol pump.
However, the driver of the other truck managed to flee.

Missing person allegedly murdered
SHILLONG: One person who had gone missing in East Jaintia Hills was found to have been allegedly murdered by unknown miscreants.
Bijoy Choudhury lodged a complaint on May 7 that his brother Kiron Choudhury (25) was missing since April 30, 2016. Later, it was found that the missing person has been murdered by unknown miscreants at Rasong Wapung Skur in East Jaintia Hills.
Cheating with false job promise
SHILLONG: A person was duped of Rs.3 lakhs on the false promise of a government job.
One Damutbha Dkhar lodged a complaint that between April, 11 and April 18, 2016, three unidentified persons claiming to be employees of the Forest department, Meghalaya, cheated him of Rs.3 lakh by promising a job for his brother.

Forest team attacked in NGH
SHILLONG: A Forest team was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Dingok Bazar in North Garo Hills.
Korak G Momin, Forester & in charge Patrolling, Mendipathar Range, GDC lodged a complaint that on May 7, he along with his staff seized one truck (ML-07-6620) carrying illegal timbers from Rari in North Garo Hills.
Later in the evening, while they were on their way to Mendipathar, unidentified miscreants attacked them at Dingok Bazar.

13-yr-old allegedly raped
SHILLONG: A thirteen year old girl was allegedly raped by one person at Dilna Balnaram village in North Garo Hills.
Jitella D. Shira, Secretary, Mother’s Union, Mendipathar Unit lodged a complaint that on April 29, 2016, one Gendal Marak allegedly raped a minor girl in his residence at Dilna Balnaram village near Thapa Darenchigre.

MEPA condoles journo’s death
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Editor’s and Publisher’s Association (MEPA) has expressed its deepest condolences on the sudden demise of veteran journalist H.S. Shangdiar.
“H.S. Shangdiar will be lovingly remembered by the media fraternity of Meghalaya. He has been one of the pioneers in disseminating news to the local populace of the State through various local newspapers. We solicit our full support to the bereaved family and friends at this time of mourning,” MEPA president R.M. Shabong said.
Shangdiar breathed his last on Monday and the funeral will be held on Wednesday.

ANVC collector surrenders
NONGSTOIN: One Allom G. Marak of Sinengkhri village in West Khasi Hills, an ANVC collector, surrendered at the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills.
He stated that he was forced to surrender due to intense police pressure.
Allom had been collecting money for ANVC from the Mahari toll gate in Sinnengkhri area since 2014.
