Final preparations afoot in SWGH as poll day nears

AMPATI:  With just three days remaining for the By-Election to the 2-Tura Parliamentary Constituency to be held on May 16, preparations are afoot to ensure smooth conduct of polls and final round of meetings and trainings have begun on Thursday.
A joint meeting of all the civil and police sector officers, zonal magistrates and zonal police officers was held on Thursday afternoon in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Returning Officer, South West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, General Observer for South and South West Garo Hills, Alka Shrivastav, Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Singh and all ADCs of the district to discuss their responsibilities and ensure proper coordination between them.
The DC & ARO, Ram Singh briefed the civil and police sector officers of their pre-poll, poll-eve and poll day responsibilities and also urged upon them to ensure that there are no public meetings or any kind of assembly of persons or processions taking place in their respective areas after the period of campaigning ends on Saturday evening, next.
He also urged upon them to ensure that there is no flare up or clashes of any kind during the time of polls and warned of strict action against those officials who are found to be negligent of their duties.
General Observer, Alka Shrivastav, who had already visited most of the polling stations within the district, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
However, as conduct of election entails a lot of hard work and a lot of expenditure, she asked the officers to ensure that they make all efforts to make this election a success.
Shrivastav said that their responsibility was the most important on the eve of polls and gave them a few practical tips to follow for ensuring peaceful, free and successful polls.
Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Singh and ADC (Election), H.D.B. Sangma also briefly addressed the officials present during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the final round of training for the presiding and first polling officials has been completed on Thursday while the final training for second and third polling officers will be conducted on Friday.
Transport arrangements have also been made and vehicles are in place for movement of polling parties which take place on Saturday.
