Muster roll workers in Jowai organize protest march over demands

JOWAI: Around 200 muster roll or casual workers of various government departments in Jaintia Hills under the banner of Muster Roll Workers’ Union, Jaintia Hills, took to the streets in Jowai to raise their voices for various demands which have been pending for a decade.
The procession started from District Library Auditorium, Jowai, and concluded at Daimasi, Ladthadlaboh.
Leaders of the union, including its president D. Paswett, secretary R. Passah and adviser L. Pariat met the West Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner and submitted a representation highlighting their various demands including regularization of those workers who had been working continuously for more than 10 years as per the Meghalaya Regular Casual Workers Scheme 1996, payment of the one per cent collected from contractors of PWD and other construction works for the welfare of casual workers and timely payment of wages, beside others.
