SHILLONG: The East Jaintia Hills Coal Suppliers Association (EJHCSA) has denied reports that illegal trucks are being allowed to ply from the district due to the inaction on the part of the police.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, EJHCSA president and former JHADC CEM, Hambertus Nongtdu, said hundreds of trucks have been penalized for overloading and carrying coal without proper challan or any other documents.
He asserted that coal is supplied by the EJHCSA to cement factories in the district only after royalty for the same is paid.
Nongtdu also admitted that the cement companies had attempted to move for supply of coal from outside the State but the association decided to oppose any such attempt.
NGT order violation
Despite transportation of coal coming to a halt from May 15, on Monday, police detected and seized 20 coal laden trucks at Nongpoh for transporting coal in violation of the NGT order.
On Sunday night police seized 29 trucks at Umkiang for illegally transporting coal without challans.
