SHILLONG: BJYM, the youth wing of BJP has petitioned DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh to disburse the post-matric scholarships pending since the academic year 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.
Speaking to media persons, BJYM president, Egenstar Kurkalang said that he had also written to the Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD).
“There has been a delay in disbursing the scholarship money to the students, we had sought the intervention of State and the Central Governments to find out ways and means and to coordinate in this regard.” Kurkalang  said. He said that the non disbursal of the scholarship has affected students coming from poor backgrounds as they await the scholarship money to pursue higher studies.
“A follow up on the issue has to be made as the delay will consequently affect the students from the weaker sections of the society especially those from rural areas,” Kurkalang said.
According to him, there are 80 per cent of students  availing scholarships from NEC and  Ministry of  Tribal affairs.
In this connection, the BJYM sought the intervention of the DONER ministry.
