Border coordination conference concludes in Dhaka
SHILLONG: A separate note on the activities of GNLA chief Sohan D Shira and ULFA commander in chief Dristi Rajkhowa was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to take action against them during the Director General level border coordination conference held between BSF and the BGB at Dhaka From May 11 to 16.
P K Dubey, Inspector General, BSF Meghalaya Frontier along with a delegation of twenty members headed by K K Sharma, Director General, BSF attended the conference.
The BSF also submitted a list of hideouts of the different insurgents groups of North East existing in Bangladesh and wanted action against them.
The BSF further sought the intervention of its counterpart for the release of Indian nationals whenever abducted by militants from Northeast.
BGB assured that whenever any information is provided by BSF about the existence of IIGs hideouts, they act upon it; conducts search and destroy operations along with other forces.
The conference is held biannually between the two border guarding forces to discuss the issues related to the border and to maintain peace and tranquility along the International border.
The conference focused on the issues like Indian insurgent activities in Bangladesh, joint efforts to prevent attacks on BSF personnel by the Bangladeshi criminals, smuggling of fake Indian currency notes, cattle smuggling, illegal migration and human trafficking, theft, abduction of Indian nationals, border violation and illegal crossing besides others.
The list of issues from the BGB side included firing, killing and injuring of unarmed Bangladesh nationals by Indian nationals, apprehension of Bangladeshis, smuggling of various types of drugs and narcotics, facilitation during bank protection works along the border.
BGB delegation also conveyed its concern over the firing on Bangladesh nationals by Indian miscreants and DG BSF emphasized that violence at zero line can be brought to lowest level by both the countries with equal participation.
Both the sides agreed to take effective measures for prevention of human trafficking, smuggling of arms and other contraband items.
Both the countries also agreed for reciprocal exchange visits of school children, friendly competition between both the border guarding forces.
