Case registered against ‘extortionist cops’

SHILLONG: The State Police has registered a case against policemen for collecting money from truckers on NH 44 at Tahkhniang under Tuberkmai Shnong in East Jaintia Hills.Meghalaya Police PRO, GHP Raju said that an inquiry into the matter will be conducted by DIG, ER, AR Mawthoh. Raju also assured that police will initiate exemplary disciplinary and criminal action against the police personnel.
The police were forced to take action after a photo was published in The Shillong Times regarding the incident. Deputy SP (HQ), East Jaintia Hills has filed an FIR against Hav. L. Ingshi, UBC B. Phalangki and ABC C. Pohkhloo who were seen engaged in illegal collection of money at Tahkhniang Tuber.
