AAP revived
SHILLONG: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reactivated the party and a  preparatory State Level Party Executive Committee meeting  was held here on Thursday.
AAP’s national observer for the North Eastern States, Habung Payeng  convened the meeting wherein 13 members of the Executive Committee were elected.
While Wanshwa Nongtdu was named the state coordinator, Luklit Uriah was the chief advisor.
Later addressing media persons Payeng said that anyone with a clean image and with no charges or allegations of corruption can join the party.
He said while Congress is immersed in corruption, BJP will not have a place in Meghalaya, a Christian state as the saffron party imposes RSS policy
“The party will take time to grow since it is new…we want to groom youngsters to take charge and lead the country,” Payeng added.

Weather warning
SHILLONG: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning that heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm accompanied with squall is likely to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya from May 20 to 22.

 City to celebrate La Tomatina
SHILLONG: Inspired by the tomato festival, “La Tomatina” usually held in the Valencian town of Buñol, Spain, Shillong is now all set to host the tomato festival for the first time at Water Sports Complex, Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam on May 21 from 12:30pm to 10 pm.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Anthony Lyngdoh, publicity secretary of Amazing Colours of India (ACI) said, “The aim of the event is to promote tourism in the state. There will be live performances by local new talents as we will provide them a platform to showcase their talents.” “A band of differently abled children from Bethany Society will perform and a live performance by Bollywood hip-hop singer Hard Kaur and her deejays,” he added.

Eco-friendly crematorium inaugurated
Ri Bhoi: The State Forest and Environment Department, has inaugurated the first (L) Kambel Eco-Friendly crematorium in Ri-Bhoi District at Borbhuin, Byrnihat on May 14.
C. Budnah, IFS, PCCF & HOFF was the Chief Guest in the programme and S. A. Nongsiej, IFS, CF (Social Forestry & Environment) was the Guest of Honour.
The programme was also witnessed the presence of S. Budnah, DFO, SF Division Nongpoh, I. Makri, Headman, D.Kharkrang Secretary, K. Syiem (Syiem of Raid Marwet)  and the representatives from Sein Raijjowai, Range Officers, Beat Officers and the residents of Borbhuin.
Speaking at the programme, chief guest Budnah pointed out that structure like these are environmental friendly and a blessing for the people in the village and nearby  areas  who still practice this method of cremating the dead.”The structure built was very scientific and hygienic at the same time,” he said.
