Shutdown of bottling plant led to LPG shortage: IOC

SHILLONG: The Chief LPG Manager of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Bimal Pathak has asserted that the entire North East region is facing shortage of LPG cylinders due to the partial shutdown of one of the major bottling plants of the IOC in the region.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday after a meeting with officials of the State government, Pathak said the bottling plant in North Guwahati has been partially shut down for the past one and a half month which is leading to shortage of LPG.
Stating that additional care is being taken for the Shillong market, he added that the shortfall is being met from neighbouring West Bengal.
Reacting to a query about black marketing of LPG cylinders, the IOC official said the matter has already been discussed with the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner.
The deputy commissioner is likely to call a meeting with IOC officials to discuss the perennial problem of shortage of LPG cylinders.
