SHILLONG: Lok Sabha member from Tura, Conrad K. Sangma, on Thursday urged Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to release the GHADC share of funds from the Transport department to enable the District Council to release the pending salaries of its staff at the earliest.
Conrad paid a courtesy call to the chief minister and sought the latter’s cooperation to serve the people of the State.  Conrad, later, stated that it was a good meeting and added that he had assured the chief minister of his full cooperation to the State government.
Conrad along with his brother and legislator, James K. Sangma, also met Governor V. Shanmuganathan.
During the meeting, Conrad highlighted crucial issues pertaining to the Garo Hills in general and GHADC in particular.
Earlier, while addressing a press conference here, the Tura MP said if the EVMs were tampered during the Tura by-election, it must have been done from the Congress’ side.
Conrad also said it was inappropriate for the chief minister to level such allegations.
Stating that he will carry forward the visions and dreams of his father Purno A. Sangma, Conrad sought the support of all political parties for the benefit of the State.
He contended that his priority would be education of the youth, problem of unemployment and the present law and order situation in Garo Hills.
He went on to say that his focus would be to improve the road, railway and air connectivity in Garo Hills.
Meanwhile, the new MP also urged the State government to expedite the process of rehabilitating the   former cadres who have surrendered before the authorities. “If we do not rehabilitate these youths soon then it will be back to square one,” he added, while recalling that the surrendered ANVC and ANVC-B cadres have been waiting for two years for the rehabilitation package.
On the issue of a non Congress alliance, Conrad said his party was open to the idea of a non Congress alliance for the 2018 Assembly elections.
