Angelica Tynsong leaving for Jaipur on June 24
SHILLONG: National bravery award winner Angelica Tynsong has been given an opportunity to study in a school at Jaipur, Rajasthan with the full support of the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW).
Angelica (14) of Pahamrioh village in Ri Bhoi district received the bravery award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February this year for her commendable act of rescuing her 6-month-old brother from their house which was engulfed by fire in January, 2015.
Angelica will leave for Jaipur on June 24 after her admission was finalized at Banasthali Vidyapith School at Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Informing this, the village headman K Suting told reporters here on Wednesday that after she bagged the national award, the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) agreed to support her studies till the time that she graduates.
Recalling the near tragic incident, Angelica said, “My brother was inside the house, which was engulfed by fire and I decided to sacrifice myself to rescue him despite people telling me to not enter (the house).”
She expressed gratitude to local MLA DD Lapang, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Ri-Bhoi district for their support.
Meanwhile, Alfon War Kharsyntiew, social worker who accompanied her said, “Brave deeds are done yet they are not recognized as there is no one to guide them. People below the age of 18 can apply for the award through the Deputy Commissioner’s Office located in every district of the state.”
