SHILLONG: Another 1.03 lakh dustbins will be distributed to around 50,000 families living in the non-municipal areas of Shillong under the Asian Development Bank project meant for segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes at the doorstep of residents. Officials informed that order for the dustbins has been already placed and the distribution is likely to start by July-August.
The process of distributing the green and blue dustbins is over in the municipal areas of the city.
The officials, however, lamented that shopkeepers in the city who were asked to buy the colour coded dustbins of bigger size have not been forthcoming.
“We will have to set a new cutoff date for the shopkeepers,” the official said, adding that if they do not buy the dustbins their garbage will not be accepted by the Shillong Municipal Board.
