TURA: Opposition MDCs of the GHADC under the banner of the Garo Hills United Alliance (GHUA) have come down heavily on the current NPP-led Executive Committee for appointing non tribal MDCs- S.G. Esmatur Mominin as Chairman of the Planning Committee and Sofiur Rehman as ‘Bikijai Advisory Committee’ in the GHADC.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, opposition MDCs – Rupert M. Sangma, Righteous N. Sangma, Levastone T. Sangma, Devier M. Sangma and Kenadik Marak,  strongly condemned the move saying it is against the interest of the tribals.
Further, the MDCs reminded that one of the appointees – Sofiur Rehman,  had stoked a controversy recently by making derogatory remarks against the Garo community on social media.
“Such a person does not deserve to be given one of the highest posts in the Council and he should be removed and expelled from the GHPA as a mark of respect to the entire Garo community and their rights and also to uphold the purpose for which the Council has been created,” they said.
