Order
After receiving notice that fish pond owners in East Khasi Hills are organising fishing competitions without permission from the district administration, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, has issued a notice that any unauthorized fishing competition without prior permission from the district authorities will be punishable under the law.
The Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills, has directed all fair price shop dealers in the district to strictly follow the provisions of National Food Security Act, 2013 and to provide every beneficiary five kgs of rice per head per month at the rate of Rs.3 per kg. Any violation of NFSA provision shall be taken seriously and appropriate action shall be taken as per law.
Yoga Day
North-Eastern Hill University will observe International Day of Yoga with a Yoga Fest on June 16 and June 17 and Yoga practice session, demonstration, lectures and poster and book exhibitions on June 21 at the NEHU Convention Hall from 9:30 AM to noon.

The Principal and staff of Ri Bhoi College Nongpoh have congratulated Audreyana Synkli for securing the first rank and Nehemaiah Syiem for securing the third rank in the BA (Final) Education Honours Examination 2016, results of which were declared by NEHU.
Unclaimed body
The SP, East Khasi Hills, has informed that one male, locally known as Crack, about 60-65 years, was found lying in an unconscious state at Rynjah Lumshngain and was removed to Shillong civil hospital by Rynjah Traffic personnel. On June 10 he expired and the body is still lying in the hospital morgue for identification. Relatives are to contact the O/C Rynjah PS on 0364-2230402 or Police Control Room Shillong on 0364-2222277 for collection of the body.
Diploma course
St Mary’s College, Shillong is offering a one year Diploma course in Health Assistant, office management, and mass media under its community college. The classes began on June 15. The minimum eligibility is class X pass. The courses are open for both girls and boys. The last date for admission is June 30.
KSU award
The KSU Shnongpdeng Unit organized the Maitshaphrang Excellence Award on Wednesday where 19 students were facilitated for successfully passing the SSLC and HSSLC examinations 2016. Awards were given to students for engaging actively in environmental issues. New office bearers were also elected with Laitphar Syngkrem as president and Kindly Khyriem as general secretary.
New institute
Fr. George Maliekal, Provincial INS, on Wednesday inaugurated the Don Bosco Technical Institution, the first of its kind, in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. Fr. James Thyrniang will be the head of the Institution.
