Agartala: While criticising the Left front government, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Anant Gangaram Geete on Friday asserted that that unless BJP comes into power, the sufferings of people of Tripura will not end.
Addressing a public rally here, Geete said when the Left front came to power in 1993, the population was a few lakh lesser than the present population, but unemployed was only a few thousand. But due to nepotism and misrule of the communists, the number of unemployed rose to 7.5 lakh against the present population of 37 lakh.
“It is shameful for any democratic government, which has been ruling the state for 23 years, but failed to generate employment opportunity and economic growth, in spite of having a huge potential. Whatever little Leftist did that was for their party cadres and ruined the employable skill of the youths,” he alleged.
He pointed out that the state government has been getting funds money from the Centre and constructing schools, hospitals and market building. However, the party could not provide competent teachers, good and adequate doctors and traders, respectively.
The massive constructions in the implementation of central sponsored schemes have widened the scope of massive corruption in the state, he said, adding that due to incompetency of the government, Tripura is lagging behind, compared to the other states.
Applauding the success of the two-years-old government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Geete said the positive ideas and innovative action plans have yielded exceptional growth of the country in social sectors and brought happiness in marginalised section.
As many as 22 crore-odd zero balance accounts have been opened under Prime Minister’s Jandhan Yojana and as of now, those accounts can generate transaction of more than Rs 30,000 crore so far, he attributed.
“This has not only curbed the deal of unaccounted money and business, but also ensured 100 per cent reach of the benefits to the beneficiaries offered by the Central government under various social development schemes.
”’Earlier, only Rs 15 out of sanctioned amount of Rs 100 could reach to the beneficiaries because of non-banking transactions but now, direct benefit transfer has assured 100 per cent reach,” the Union Minister claimed. (UNI)
