‘Chief Minister  shielding Minister involved in education scam’

SHILLONG: Denouncing ‘moral drift’ and decline in standard of governance, BJP has come down heavily on Mukul Sangma-led MUA II government for shielding a minister involved in the infamous education scam, a weak-kneed approach towards development, internal security and infiltration and total apathy towards the vexed boundary dispute with neighbouring Assam
The party tried to come clean on several issues afflicting the State during the second state executive meeting held on Saturday in Shillong.
In the meeting, attended by Ajay Jamwal, Secretary, In charge  organization, North East region, the Committee members endorsed several resolutions adopted at the National Executive meeting of the party held at Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, from June 12 to 13.
The State BJP felt that Mukul Sangma Government has completely failed to usher in development as promised by Congress in its 2013 election manifesto.
“The prime factor contributing to stalling of development activities is in the internal squabble among the Congress Ministers and MLAs”, said Basu Chakraborty, spokesperson BJP Meghalaya State Committee, in a statement issued to the media on Sunday.
According to the party, the Chief Minister is busy in pleasing his political masters in Delhi and placate the rebel MLAs to secure his chair rather than working for the welfare of the people.
“Consecutive defeats of Congress in different polls held in the recent past including Tura by-poll only reflect the growing anger of the people against the ruling party. The Chief Minister’s shameless shielding of one his ministers involved in the infamous education scam only proves the moral drift of this Government”, the BJP leader said.
Concern over influx, security and border dispute
According to BJP, illegal influx of Bangladeshi nationals has become a menace for the entire State.
“Since its inception in Meghalaya, the BJP has been demanding detection, deletion and deportation of the infiltrators. But till date the Government has not adopted any effective mechanism”, Chakraborty said
While the indigenous population has an apparent fear of being swapped away, the genuine non-tribals, some of whom have been residing in the State for the past 50 or 100 years have a grievance that they are being accorded second / third class status, the BJP leader said.
The BJP also expressed dismay over the stand of the state government as far as the vexed boundary dispute with Assam is concerned.
The party questioned the sincerity of Congress in this regard as it was ruling in both the states  of Assam and Meghalaya.
The BJP resolved that if elected to power, the party would give top priority in settling the issue with the present BJP Government in Assam.
“The activities of GNLA and other underground outfits go on unabated. The situation in Garo Hills is worsening day by day where even private school teachers and petty businessmen are regularly served demand notes. The morale of the police force is at all time low due to lackluster policy of the Government in tackling militancy”, the BJP said.
Atrocities in B’desh condemned
The Meghalaya BJP has condemned the atrocities on minorities in the context of eviction of Khasis and torture of other minority communities in Bangladesh and asserted that it will take up the matter with the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
The BJP said that the Dhaka district administration has allegedly issued an eviction notice to over 700 families belonging to indigenous Khasi tribe who have been living in their ancestral land at Nahar Punji of Srimangal Upazila in Moulavi Bazar. “The district Administration has directed them to leave Nahar Puji village within June 12, with a threat to evict them forcefully if the people refused to leave. All these Khasi people are in great fear and are passing each moment with distress and worries of eviction after learning about the notice”, the BJP said
According to BJP, the whole movement is planned in such a way that not only Khasis but also Hindus, Buddhists and Christians are being targeted, tortured and murdered in Bangladesh as reported in the national media.
An organization “Hindu – Buddhists – Christian United Forum of Bangladesh” is fighting in Bangladesh for their cause and has even brought it to the notice of Modi, the BJP said.
