Consumer awareness programme

SHILLONG: An awareness programme on consumer rights was organised by the Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS), Nongpoh Branch at the Urban Affairs Super Market Complex Nongpoh on Friday. On the occasion, consumers were asked to check for over pricing and cheating by retailers and others.
The programme was sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) Ri Bhoi.
T.R Mallai, administrator, BIDS appealed to consumers to exercise their rights and duties under Consumer Protection Act 1986.
Under the Act, consumers have their rights to safety, right to be informed, right to choose, to be heard, to seek redressal and right to consumer education, he said.
He further appealed consumers to remain alert and to protect themselves from buying adulterated food items, overpricing, use of faulty weights and selling of expired products.
The consumers were asked to file their complaints, if any, to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum.
