SHILLONG: With cases of overcharging beyond Rs 3 per kg rice from the consumers under National Food Security Act (NFSA) surfacing, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar has asked the consumers to approach him if there are any aberrations.
After media persons brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner that some dealers were overcharging from the consumers,    the Deputy Commissioner on Monday said that this would not be tolerated as the price for one kg rice under NFSA is fixed at Rs 3.
“Nobody can over charge as the price is fixed and the separate handling charges to lift the quota of rice by the dealers will be provided by the government,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
As per NFSA, the beneficiaries will get 5 kg rice and wheat per month at the rate of Rs 3 and Rs 2 per kg respectively per family, while the beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) will get 35 kg food grains per month.
Over 75% population (21,449,095 persons) in the entire state will avail subsidized rice and wheat and the break up is 50.87% (3,03,464 persons)  in urban areas and 77.79% (18,45,631) in rural areas.
