It’s ‘focus on sports’ for WJH school

JOWAI: A school in West Jaintia Hills has decided to go all out to encourage children who excel in sports activities. During a felicitation programme, organised on Saturday in honour of meritorious students of the school who emerged successful in this year’s SSLC and HSSLC examinations, Principal of North Liberty North Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Richard Uriah said that the school was all for recognizing the talents of students gifted in any field.
In this regard he announced that students who have bagged gold medals in recognized sports events can pay 30 per cent less than the prescribed school fees. Similarly students who bag silver will be allowed to pay 20 per cent less.
Not only this, the principal also went ahead to announce that the best athlete in the U-16 category from the school, selected to represent West Jaintia Hills   in the State meets will be provided “a 100 per cent scholarship”.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, the school gifted a laptop to one of its pupils, SSLC 4th rank holder, Avantgard Nongplu. The Meghalaya Pensioners’ Association, Jaintia Hills Branch also handed over a cash award of Rs. 5000 to the youngster. Another student, Bymonmiralda Lato, who featured in the top 20 list of HSSLC Arts was also given a laptop.
Altogether, 71 SSLC students and 37 HSSLC students were felicitated by the school on the occasion.
