SHILLONG: Young dancers from across North East, who go by the name Unity 1 Crew, are seeking sponsorship to enable them to compete at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship to be held at Las Vegas from August 8-13. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Abhijit Mahato, member of the hip-hop group said that they need financial assistance from the state governments of all North Eastern states to generate an amount of Rs 21 lakh to compete in the competition at Las Vegas.
“The deadline to deposit the money is July 5,” he said adding that the group has already approached the Assam Government but did not get any assurance from it.
The group would now approach the Meghalaya Government on the issue.
“Over 20 from India were selected from the Indian Hip Hop dance and only one group was selected from North East India to compete at the main world event,” Mahato said. Mahato informed that $ 5000 (Rs 339525) will be taken away by the winners of the World Hip Hop Dance Championship. Meanwhile, All Meghalaya Dancers Association (AMDA) president, Kitbok Thabah, who accompanied Mahato said, “We have decided to form the All North East Dancers’ Association which will be the mouthpiece of all dancers from the North East.”
