SHILLONG: Supreme Court on Monday passed an order to issue notice to the Meghalaya government and police in connection with the mysterious death of  police officer PJ Marbaniang, who was found with bullet injuries on his head on January 24 last year at his official quarter at Patharkhmah police outpost.
Last month, the petitioner, Dorothy Marbaniang, mother of the victim had sought the intervention of the Supreme Court by filing a special leave petition (SLP) to stay the final order of the High Court and to order for a fair investigation as the report of the State’s ( own Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the case threw more questions than the answers.
After hearing the case on Monday, the apex court wanted notices to be issued to commissioner and secretary Home, DGP, superintendent of police (SP), Nongpoh, OC, Nongpoh, and Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The SIT in its finings had maintained that the police officer committed suicide due to pressure, which however, was rejected by the family members including the mother and others.
