Nongpoh: The protests against the Government’s move to install weigh bridge at Nongpoh faced another hurdle when the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Nongpoh circle joined hands with the Nongpoh Town Committee & the Traditional Heads (Durbar Ki Rangbah Shnong), Ri Bhoi District.
While speaking to newsmen here, FKJGP president of Nongpoh circle said that Installation of the Weigh Bridge at the very heart of Nongpoh town will not only lead to massive traffic congestion on the National Highway but will also cause severe hardships to the pedestrians, commuters and the general people at large.
The organization also expresses shock as to how the government wanted to install such Weigh Bridge in the DTO’s campus, which serves as Interstate Bus Terminals, Railways Booking Counter and the general people who visit the DTO’s office for vehicle related issues.
“Hence, by installing of such weigh bridge, the DTO’s office will no longer serve it purposes”, FKJGP president said.
Further, the organization strongly urged the Transport Department and the State Government to stop the ongoing installation work of the weigh bridge at Nongpoh and instead suggest the Government to find suitable place for installing such kind of weigh bridge at the outskirt of Nongpoh town.
