BSF on their toes

Shillong: The BSF troops of Duplipara, South Garo Hills district, managed to seize 21 numbers of cattle meant for smuggling to Bangladesh. The BSF troops have been making frequent seizures at the border areas of Meghalaya. In a similar instance attempt of smugglers was foiled in Sibbari area where 9 more cattle were seized, a release issued here informed.
The rise in cattle smuggling is cause of concern to the forces deployed on the border as sometimes it causes a serious threat to the security of the villagers and their property, the BSF said in the statement, adding that the smugglers continues to smuggle cattle to Bangladesh by breaching the fence on Meghalaya’s border with Bangladesh. The BSF informed that, in the last one month they seized 243 cattle, 958 cubic feet wooden logs, 7.2 Kgs of ganja, Bangladesh Taka 3, 45,443, 1871 bottles of liquor, and other contraband items worth more than 88 lakhs
