Mawbeh declared ODF village

SHILLONG: Mawbeh a village in the East Khasi Hills District, under Pynursla C&RD Block, with 122 households under the Raid Mawja of Hima Khyrim was declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) on July 15.
The battle between the practice of open defecation and shifting to the modern hygienic latrine lasted for years. It was in April this year that the village triumphed over its opponent through the facilitation and intervention of a group of Masters of Social Work students of St Edmund’s College who are placed in Pynursla Block for their field experience.
On the occasion, the village organized a programme with the assistance of the students and the Block coordinator of Swachh Bharat Mission.
Officials from different departments (SSA, ICDS, Police Station Pynursla and many more) and invitees came and witnessed the declaration and participated in the celebration with the village.
K. Siej (S.D.O of Pynursla PHED) was the Chief Guest and he felicitated the village with a certificate for achieving the ODF status.
“Process of transition matters and the village has got it right” M.W. Kharkongor said during the inspection of the village.
The Village Water & Sanitation Committee (VWSC) of Mawbeh helped to achieve the  destination.
