Five held in murder case

SHILLONG: Police have arrested five persons including an HNLC cadre for their alleged involvement in demanding ransom of Rs 30 lakh for the release of one Damankhraw Wanniang (25), who was abducted last month.
Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that a woman lodged a missing complaint regarding her son Wanniang (25) on June 27. “On July 7, she received a call informing that her son is in the custody of the caller who demanded Rs 30,00,000 for his release,” Kharkrang said.
Acting swiftly, Mawlai Police arrested five suspects. They are Klemenroy Nongtri, John Fishal Lyngkhoi, an HNLC cadre arrested earlier, Richard Wahlang, Shanborlang Rani and Kitboklang Kharsyntiew of Mawiong.
Acting on the leads provided by the arrested persons, police on Sunday in the presence of a magistrate exhumed a fully decomposed body suspected to be of Wanniang.
Kharkrang said that post-mortem of the body has been done and   now DNA test would be conducted to ascertain its identity.
