Nongpoh: The road from Narbong towards the Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) Byrnihat has been languishing in distress with corroded and potholed conditions, causing severe inconvenience to the local residents of several villages who commute daily on this road.
Adding more woes to the problems, an uprooted tree collapsed over the road which has disrupted normal life but the department concerned seems to be a mere spectator.
Having brought traffic to a grinding halt for nearly 24 hours, the uprooted tree which collapsed on Sunday morning was cleared by members of the FKJGP Byrnihat Circle and local villagers on Monday.
Speaking to newsmen, FKJGP Byrnihat Circle president Lumlang Mawnai expressed concern over the inaction of the PWD in maintaining and repairing the road and also alleged that things have worsened because of lack of initiative on part of the government to repair the roads which has remained damaged for the last decade or so.
Mawnai also said that it has become very difficult to commute as the road is full of craters. During rain, because of accumulation of water, it becomes very difficult to identify water-filled craters on the road, he added.
He alleged that the government has victimized the people of this area by converting it into an industrial area (EPIP). The road is in bad shape due to the movement of heavy vehicles from various industries in EPIP Byrnihat, he further alleged.
The FKJGP president further urged the government to take steps to repair the Narbong road at the earliest for smooth movement of vehicles and the people of this area.
