Police bid to tackle cyber crime

SHILLONG: The State police have decided to campaign aggressively against cyber crimes by distributing pamphlets in Khasi and Garo languages besides English to reach out to larger section of people including students.
The DGP SK Jain said on Tuesday said that the intention is to reach out to the masses to ensure that they do not fall under various traps due to ignorance.
The cyber wing, CID, Meghalaya police has circulated the dos and don’ts while using computers and mobile phones.
The police have also cautioned people not to post the personal information on any of the social networking sites or through mobile apps like Whatsapp and Instagram.
“Do not meet up with people you have met online. If someone asks to meet you, tell your parents or guardians right away. Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are”, says one of the internet/mobile phone guidelines issued by police.
Police also asked the people that if any cyber crime occurs, the matter should be reported to the nearest police station or cyber crime police station immediately.
The DGP who recently announced the formation of the cyber assistance cell said that there is good response from people to the initiative.
