SHILLONG: The pro-two lane Nongstoiñ-Wahkaji-Mawthabah road project Langrin Area Development Organisation (LADO) has alleged that locals not in favour of the initiative are those who reside in sub-urban areas.
In a statement issued to the press on Sunday, LADO general secretary, Pyndap L. Marshillong said that the State government should pay attention to the people in favour of development as it is not wise to delay such projects.
“The State has seen numerous oppositions to various developmental initiatives including setting up of cement factory, the Byrnihat railway line, etc.,” he said adding that the organization is firm on its stand to support and demand the implementation of the road project and even collaborate with other pro-development groups on the “crucial issue”.
“The opposition to the road project is baseless. Without roads the areas where the project is proposed will have no connectivity and hence no development. There have been no groups demanding better road connectivity in the rural areas…there have only been oppositions,” Marshillong pointed out.
The LADO demanded the State government to give green signal to the implementation of the road project and urged the KHADC to grant the No Objection Certificate (NoC) for the work at the earliest.
However, the organization has opposed any move to mine uranium in the State.
