Khasi film bags second prize at Brahmaputra Valley Film Fest

SHILLONG: A Khasi short film U Thlen has won the 1st Runner-up Award at the 4th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2016 held in Guwahati from July 22 to 24.
The short film directed by Badeimon Kharshiing and Badap K. Lyngdoh was produced under the banner of Carol’s Production and Stepping Stones Production.
Actors who were part of the movie included Rudolf Mawlong, Pradeep Shullet, Enshon Lamare, Wanni Khyriem and Zefferyan Kharbani, among others.
The Khasi film was selected for the prestigious award from among 105 entries to the festival representing the eight states of the region. A jury shortlisted the top 15 movies which were then screened during the course of the festival.
The best short film went to Colours of Water from Manipur while the 2nd   runner-up award went to Little Hearts from Assam.
The winners were announced on the final day of the festival.
The directors of the movie U Thlen received the award from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju in the presence of prominent Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali along with the director of the festival Tanushree Hazarika.
It may be mentioned thatthe film U Thlen revolves around the Khasi belief about the presence of U Thlen. It is believed to be malevolent and evil that takes the form of a huge man eating snake.
The movie poses a question on whether the Khasi belief about the presence of U Thlen is real or imaginary. Another Khasi short film which had made it to the top 15 list was My Own Hell from West Khasi Hills.
