Improvement of connectivity with North East stressed

SHILLONG: The Joint Movement Committee for Corridor from Balurghat-Hili (West Bengal) to Mahendraganj-Tura (Meghalaya) through Bangladesh recently met a host of Central leaders   demanding a corridor to improve connectivity of the North East region with Bangladesh and West Bengal.
The Committee submitted representations to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Civil Aviation Minister and Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju and demanded air connectivity from Tura via Balurghat to Netaji Subash Airport (Dum Dum airport).
Besides asking for railway connectivity from Hili to Sealdah through Old Darjeeling Mail Route.
The Committee also submitted a memorandum to Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and Minister in-charge of Tourism and Culture, Mahesh Sharma calling for the need to revive easy communication between West Garo Hills and West Bengal.
The corridor committee also appealed to the Government to consider the immediate implementation report of the National Transport Development Policy Committee (NTDPC) which proposed for a corridor between the Hili-Balurghat (West Bengal) & Mahendraganj-Tura (Meghalaya) through Bangladesh.
The corridor committee also met Tura MP Conrad Sangma at his Delhi residence and handed over the charter of demands relating to corridor, railway and air connectivity.
