Laban Sports Club marks 110 years of existence

SHILLONG: The Laban Sports Club, one of the oldest sports clubs in the North East turned 110 on Saturday. To mark the occasion a function was held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here to relive the Club’s over 100-year-old history and pay tributes to its founders.
Speaking on the occasion, South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai said that the club has come a long way despite facing several ups and downs. He also called for collective efforts to take the club forward
Stating that the indoor stadium at the Laban Sports Club ground is targeted to be completed by December this year, he said that the stadium will be inaugurated as part of the celebration and will be accordingly handed over to the club for promotion of young talents.
Earlier, the president of Raid Laban Dorbar, Iostar Sunn acknowledged the contribution of the founders for the success of the club.
A brief presentation on the journey of the club was also made and rich tribute and homage paid to the founding members of the Laban Sports Club in whose memory a minute’s silence was observed.
Formed in 1906, the Laban Sports Club, then known as the ‘Laban Athletics Club’ has produced quite a number of outstanding sportspersons in different disciplines – football, hockey, badminton, table-tennis and others. Earlier, in the morning,   a marathon, ‘Run for Laban’ was organized to mark the occasion.
