Amount cannot be ‘operated’, directs High Court

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday directed ICICI Bank, Shillong, not to allow transaction of the Rs 4.96 crore that was transferred from Vijaya Bank in connection with a case of non-payment of dues by the State Sports Council. The Council owes Rs 10 crore to M/s Funya Sports owned by Deoris Marbaniang.
The petitioner’s counsel, during the hearing on Friday, said the money that was kept in Vijaya Bank has now been transferred to ICICI Bank. The Court also said that the petitioner’s counsel, if desires, can move an application to implead ICICI Bank, Shillong, as a party.
Earlier on Thursday, the High Court of Meghalaya had directed petitioner Deoris Marbaniang to implead the Garikhana Branch of Vijaya Bank as one of the respondents in the case. The bank was made a respondent on Friday. The petitioner’s counsel was asked to take necessary steps to issue notice in this regard through the registry immediately.
The counsels for the parties suggested that the case be fixed in September for moving an application for impleading ICICI Bank, Shillong, as a party.
