SHILLONG: The Dobu regional unit of the FKJGP has alleged irregularities in the implementation of Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and Individual Household Latrine scheme under Songsak developmental block in East Garo Hills.
In a complaint lodged with the Public Accounts Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the group said the suppliers were supposed to give 24 bags of cement, 9 sqm of CGI sheets, three pairs of ridging, 80kg of 10mm rods and 30kg of 8mm rods to each IAY beneficiary.
However, the NGO alleged that the suppliers with the connivance of the BDO and other officers gave only 20 bags of cement, 8 sqm of CGI sheets, two pairs of ridging, seven pairs of 10 mm rods and 6-7 kg of 6mm rods.
“The beneficiaries were compelled to collect the materials from the BDO’s office even after paying Rs 1,000 each for transportation,” FKJGP Dobu regional unit president P Sangma said.
The NGO further alleged that the cost of building each household latrine is Rs 10,500, out of which DWSC, Williamnagar, has transferred Rs 5,100 to the BDO. The cost of all materials is Rs 3,866 and the remaining Rs 1,233 has neither been credited to any beneficiary nor does the administration have any explanation for the missing fund.
The FKJPG has urged the Public Accounts Committee to inquire the matter and take action against those responsible for the alleged misappropriation.
