SHILLONG: Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar will visit the State on September 19, said D.P Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department, on Tuesday.
The Union minister will attend a meeting on September 20.
Wahlang on Tuesday assured a delegation of KSU members led by education secretary Donald Thabah that he would flag the issue of exemption of PhD students from Aadhaar for their fellowship programmes.
Speaking to reporters, Thabah said, “Wahlang said he would speak to the minister and we will send a letter of appeal to the Minister seeking the exemption of PhD students from Aadhar number.”
He stated that Meghalaya should follow in the footsteps of Assam where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had met Javadekar and managed to exempt students from the Aadhaar project.
