SHILLONG: Parliamentary secretary and Congress legislator Winnerson D Sangma has resigned to be part of the panel of chairpersons to conduct the session in absence of Assembly Speaker AT Mondal.
On the first day of the autumn session of the Assembly on Friday, the Speaker announced the letter dated September 8, which he received from Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, regarding the resignation of the parliamentary secretary. The Chief Minister has accepted his resignation.
Besides Winnerson, the Speaker also nominated Dikkanchi D Shira, Titosstarwell Chyne and Witting Mawsor to the panel of chairpersons replacing    Nihim D Shira and Metbah Lyngdoh.
While Winnerson may chair the session when the no-confidence motion against the Speaker is taken up on September 16, the Speaker has downplayed his nomination stating that there was no hidden agenda.
Since the post of the Deputy Speaker is vacant following the resignation of Sanbor Shullai last March, any of the chairpersons will chair the session in the absence of the Speaker.
