DSCs/MPSC should tell exact number of vacancies while advertising, says Mukul
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma assured the House on Monday that the government would correct the anomalies arising out of the actual number of vacancies for jobs in the State and the excess appointments made.
Replying to a question by Ardent Basaiawmoit (HSPDP), the Chief Minister said the government had earlier confronted a situation where candidates, who had been listed as successful either by the District Selection Committees or the Meghalaya Public Service Commission, could not be appointed as there were no vacancies.
“Therefore, the DSCs or MPSC while advertising should tell the exact (number of) vacancies and results should also be declared which will commensurate with the number of vacancies,” Sangma said, and added that the State government would correct the earlier mess to go in sync with the order of the Supreme Court in this regard.
While Basaiawmoit wanted to know whether the State government had resorted to contractual appointments to replace the regular process of appointment, the Chief Minister said the appointment on contractual basis did not imply regular posts even as he revealed that contractual appointments started way back in 1979 and this has been continuing in order to ensure implementation of specific programmes of the Centre.
To a supplementary question by K.P Pangniang (HSPDP) on whether the contractual appointees will be absorbed as regulars, the Chief Minister said legal provisions would be examined before looking into the matter.
