SHILLONG: As many as 197 doctors did not join service between 2001 and 2011 though they were sponsored by the State government.
Replying to a question by UDP’s Donkupar Roy, Health and Family Welfare Minister Roshan Warjri informed the Assembly on Wednesday that among the government-sponsored doctors who failed to join the service, 28 had paid the bond amount.
Raising a supplementary question, Roy expressed concern over the issue and said the government should look at alternate measures to ensure that doctors report back to the State as the bond agreement alone is not sufficient.  The minister assured that steps will be taken to ensure that the sponsored doctors serve in the State.
