Editor,
The first and oldest road of Garo Hills from Phulbari to Tura was constructed during the British period. Tura is now the headquarters of West Garo Hills and Dadenggre is the only Civil Sub-division after the creation of Meghalaya state. The people from the villages need to travel to Tura and Dadenggre every now and then to meet government officials since all government offices are located in the civil Sub-division.
But it is a shame that due to the deteriorating condition of the road surface there are huge craters resulting in water logging during rainy season. Hence the transport of machinery and movement of vehicles us badly affected. This road has not been repaired in years Earlier the PWD would spread sand and gravel as a temporary measure but now they have stopped that too leaving the road unusable. Now the road has deteriorated to a point where it ha sbecome dangerous for vehicles to ply on. I request the Government to repair this road and demonstrate its commitment to equitable development.

Golf links poser!
Editor,
Our attention is drawn to B Mawrie’s poser,“Can we salvage Golf Links?” Yes, but not on the terms he suggests. It must be common knowledge by now, that the public’s easy round the clock access unlike in other courses protected by a boundary wall is the root cause. As such, keeping out cricket, football and other harmful activities and the littering which goes on regularly is a daily headache causing the resources to be utilized in cleaning up the mess. Hence the Board of Directors has decided on a plan to re-align the road network as would provide an alternative passage for both the motorists and pedestrian to move about undisturbed.

Irritated by poor network
Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I want to express my unhappiness and disappointment over worst network coverage from Aircel network service provider in my village at Ichamati, Mawlong Sirdarship East Khasi Hills District. In spite of the tall boast of the company to provide better network coverage we are facing the worst network than ever before. What’s most irritating is when we make a call have to dial repeatedly as we see our cell phone displaying the sign “Call Ended” or a voice saying not reachable. Even when we get connected the recipient does not hear the caller’s voice and vice versa or we hear voices of some other caller as if there is a third party between us. This has gone on for six to seven months and is getting worse every day. Some consumers expressed that it made them feel as if the company (service provider) is doing it intentionally to have call drops so that they can extract our money. If the company cannot rectify these problems at the earliest, I feel that most of the consumers will choose other service providers as other providers are now available unlike those days when depended solely on Aircel network in our area.
As far as I am concerned I shall shift to other service providers if these problems persist in spite of being an Aircel customer for the past 7 years because I am afraid that with this kind of network I will be in trouble when I need to contact someone in an emergency. What would happen, for instance if I met with an accident and cannot contact anyone on time? Time is precious and priceless and cannot be bought. Even one second makes a difference between life and death. It will be a big blow for the company to lose its consumers if it does not value us and every paisa that they earn from us.
Yours etc.,
