Air Fest
To commemorate the 84th Anniversary of the IAF, the ‘Air Fest 2016’ will be organised at ALG ground, Upper Shillong. This year the Air Fest will be held for three days instead of normal two days from September 30 to October 2. The fest will be open to all with no entry fee. Activities like fly past by fighter aircraft, para sailing, aero modeling, static display of aircraft, slithering operation of the special IAF force  ‘Garud’ will be the main highlights of the event.
NPR enrolment
An awareness programme on NPR Biometric Enrolment/Aadhaar was held at H. Elias Higher Secondary School, Nongthymmai on September 17. The programme was organized by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills in collaboration with the Directorate of Census Operation, Meghalaya.
Street play
As a part of the Clean India Campaign (Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan) students and staff of Army Public School Umroi Military  Station will stage a street play based on the theme ‘Clean India, Green India’ from 9.00 am to 9.30 am at Police Bazar on September 25.
IGNOU centre shifted
IGNOU Regional Centre Shillong has shifted to its permanent building to Umshing, Mawkynroh, NEHU Campus.
Medical camp
The Meghalaya Youth Foundation (MYF) in collaboration with other organisations will conduct a free health camp at Pomlakrai, East Khasi Hill on September 23. Residents of six neighbouring villages are likely to benefit from the camp.
New headman
The general meeting of the Durbar Shnong of Umsohlang village in Ri Bhoi held on Monday at the village’s community hall unanimously elected Joplin Lyngdoh as its headman and Johnfisher Shangphliang as general secretary among others.
Prohibition
The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting illegal killing of fishes at Borhil and Lyngkhat rivers around Nongtyngur and the adjoining areas by using poisonous chemicals and explosive substances.
Debate competition
The Zenith Jubelieth Club, Laban will organize the annual Dr. M.M. Das Memorial Debate competition on September 24 on the club premises. All higher secondary schools and colleges in Shillong have been invited to participate in the competition. The motion of the debate is “Religion does more harm than good”. Interested institutes may send their teams comprising of two students, one speaking for the motion and other against.
