SHILLONG: People from different walks of life on Saturday paid tribute to the eighteen brave soldiers of the Indian army who were recently killed in an army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Bharatya Janata Yuva Morcha on Saturday held a signature campaign in Shillong followed by a candle light vigil at Khyndailad where thousands of people expressed their solidarity with the families of the fallen soldiers.
General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Youth Morch, (BJYM), Nitin Khera said, “We as civilians are paying our tribute and respect to the 18 brave soldiers for their sacrifice in our own way.”
He said that the aim of the campaign is to express their solidarity besides paying homage to the   jawans who sacrificed their lives in the attacks carried out by Pakistan-based militants.
The campaign drew more than 6000 signatures where state BJP leaders and men in uniform were also seen penning down their signature on the flexes placed at the venue.
Khera further informed that the collection of signature campaign will be send to the army base in Uri to let them know that the country stands with the army in times of crisis.
It may be mentioned that on September 18,  four heavily armed terrorists attacked an Indian army base, in what is regarded as the deadliest attack on security forces in the past two decades. Two men were arrested in connection with the terror attack on Saturday.  Narendra  Modi sent a strong message to Pakistan for stoking terrorrism in the subcontinent.
