Rilbong Club organises marathon for ‘Swachh’ Shillong

 
SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister R.V. Lyngdoh has appealed to the people of the State to shun use of plastic and join hands with the Government for ushering in a cleaner Shillong.
He was addressing the closing function of a Marathon for a Cleaner Shillong held here on Saturday.
Lyngdoh said it would be impossible for the government agencies alone to keep the town tidy unless the people themselves play an active role. He said he would shortly be approaching all stake-holders for their support to the cause.
The Marathon, which was conducted by the Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club on the occasion of its diamond jubilee celebrations, saw nearly a thousand runners taking part in the 12-km run.
The runners took an oath for a Swachh Bharat. The oath was administered by MLCU Vice-Chancellor R.G. Lyngdoh. Earlier, Club President Manas Chaudhuri in his welcome speech said that the next programme of the jubilee is going to be “Dances of India” on October 6 at Rilbong Ground. The Club also proposes to hold a table tennis tournament, a youth festival and a food festival during the next couple of months.
Following are the prize winners of the marathon:
Men: Anish Thapa (Gold), Suvraj Gurung (Silver) and Maikhelsing Ramsiej (Bronze) and cash awards of Rs 10,000, Rs 7000 and Rs 4000 respectively.
Women: Pynhun Shulet (Gold), Kyntimon Marwein (Silver) and Dateiban Kynmaw Marwein (Bronze) along with cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.
Below-14: Libares K. Sohpoh (Gold), Cheerag Sunrassi Thapa (Silver) and Stevenson Swer (Bronze) with cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
The oldest male runner was Sanjib Choudhury (72) and the oldest woman to run was Beatrice Pde (69). Three-year-old Vanvine Kharsati was adjudged the youngest runner.
