Ri Bhoi SP clarifies on toll gate extortion

Nongpoh:  The Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police has said there was no extortion by police at Umling toll gate as reported recently.
While clarifying on the report published by The Shillong Times, ‘Extortion at Umling toll gate’ on September 24, SP G.D Kharwanlang asserted that the allegations were made by unknown sources, adding that there has been no police deployment at the toll gate for the past four months after coal transportation was prohibited following the NGT ban.
He also informed that in case of any complaint of police extortion in the district, the matter should immediately be brought to the notice of the district police chief on the following numbers 94363-37946 and 98565-26363. The complaint should mention the specific location, date and time so that necessary action can be taken.
