AMPATI: Children in Meghalaya are better off than those in other states when it comes to abuse and exploitation, said Chief Whip W.D Sangma on Friday.
Speaking at a district-level awareness programme on the Juvenile Justice Act and child rights here on Friday, the MLA said in absence of proper safeguard mechanism, even children in the State become vulnerable.
On juvenile delinquents, Sangma said, “There is a need to identify and declare safe homes to keep them. Education for these delinquents can be continued in these special homes as directed by the government.”
Member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Yashwant Jain said it was necessary to spread awareness on child rights laws at the grassroots level.
